Clear braces from Uptown Orthodontics combine the durability of traditional braces with the low profile of aligners so everyone focuses on your smile, not your treatment.
Clear braces — or ceramic braces — replace the stainless steel brackets from traditional braces with rounded, clear-colored ceramic brackets for a more comfortable, more discreet way of straightening your teeth.
Say goodbye to irritating metal brackets! Dr. Zachary Skabelund at Uptown Orthodontics offers clear braces with smaller, rounded brackets for improved comfort and reduced irritation — making your smile journey a lot more confident and enjoyable.
Clear braces work the same way as traditional metal braces — but with durable, high-quality ceramic material that ensures your smile journey flies under the radar.
With brackets that closely match the natural color of your teeth, our clear braces are designed for everyday use — not everyday attention.
If you’re still looking around for the orthodontic solution you need, brace yourself as we offer the rundown on the metal versus clear brackets debate.
While both straighten your teeth, each option suits a specific need. Check out some of the key considerations.
Clear braces are made from ceramic materials that blend with your natural tooth color, making them less noticeable than metal braces.
Metal braces, on the other hand, use stainless steel brackets that are more visible.
While both clear and metal braces are strong and effective, metal braces are slightly more durable due to the nature of stainless steel.
However, a clear option is still highly resilient and capable of treating various orthodontic issues.
Ceramic braces are designed to be more comfortable than metal braces, as their ceramic material is smoother and less likely to irritate the gums and cheeks.
Metal braces, while effective, can sometimes cause more discomfort due to their metal brackets and wires.
You may assume that ceramic brackets are more difficult to keep clean. However, like metal brackets, clear braces are stain-resistant.
The clear elastics often used with ceramic braces are more prone to discoloration — but you can get the same clear elastics on metal braces, too.
Dr. Skabelund, Dr. Jacobs, and our smile team will change out your elastics at each adjustment appointment, so discoloration won’t likely be a problem.
Dr. Skabelund or Dr. Jacobs will conduct a thorough assessment of your teeth and discuss your smile goals and concerns. Then, our smile team will take photos and X-ray scans of your mouth to generate a full 3D model to serve as the basis for your treatment plan.
Your plan will contain the exact placement of your brackets, as well as the planned movement of your teeth until you get the straighter, brighter smile you need.
Once ready, we’ll install your braces right away. Dr. Skabelund or Dr. Jacobs will carefully glue the ceramic brackets to your teeth. Next, we’ll thread a medical-grade archwire through each of the brackets, securing the wire to each bracket with a clear elastic tie.
After your braces have been installed, Dr. Skabelund or Dr. Jacobs will sit down with you, explain the dos and don’ts of wearing clear braces, and answer any questions you have.
Throughout your treatment, you’ll need to visit our Fairfield or Oxford office for regular appointments. Dr. Skabelund or Dr. Jacobs will monitor your progress and determine if he needs to tighten, repair, or adjust your archwires.
These check-ins allow us to review your treatment plan and your progress to make sure your smile journey stays on track.
At the end of your treatment, we’ll remove your clear braces and provide you with a set of retainers.
Wearing your retainers according to plan will help ensure that your smile lasts a lifetime.
Clear braces offer a more discreet alternative for getting a brighter, healthier smile. At Uptown Orthodontics, you can expect the best care and a high-quality treatment specifically tailored to your unique needs.
